Barry launched Auria Senior Living in 2017 in response to the limited living options available to older adults in South Africa, and has since, together with the Auria Team, redefined the industry by setting new benchmarks in care, design, and community experience.

A Chartered Accountant (SA) by profession, Barry has over 20 years experience in the property industry, and prior to Auria, co-founded South Africa’s largest off-campus student housing platform and held leadership roles in a global FTSE-100 mining and commodity company.

“My grandmother, even into her nineties refused to move into any ‘retirement village’ because none of them appealed to her, and she felt her independence would be compromised”, Barry says regarding what led him to start Auria – “I realised that a beautiful living environment designed for older adults, that is vibrant, respectful and appealing, with the appropriate levels of personal choice, care and support – is exactly what was lacking”

Barry is driven by being able to pro-actively bring extraordinary quality of life to older adults, and can be found, in his spare time, catching up with residents in our Auria communities, hearing their stories and discussing the continual improvements that our Auria Team strive for.
